Focusing on me

Normally I don't make resolutions for the New Year. However, this year I did. I decided to take better care of myself. I would take my vitamins, get more rest and see the doctor more often. As a mother, I find that I'm not alone when it comes to taking care of the children first and forgetting about my needs. To be honest, it doesn't help that I avoid going to all of my doctors and the dentist. I no sooner had made the resolution that I broke it. But, since my recent battle with this rotten cold and terrible cough lasted more than a week, I finally made the appointment to see the doctor yesterday. I'm happy to say that I don't have bronchitis (which is what I first thought), but I do have a sinus infection. Lou said to me "Without your health - you have nothing." He's right. No, ifs ands or buts.

Now, that I'm trying to focus on my health, this morning I became pro-active and made a dentist appointment for a cleaning and check up. Since I don't have babysitting available, Monkey Girl will come along for the ride. I'll bring a snack, toys and activities for her to do and hopefully those will keep her occupied long enough. Btw, I never would have brought Computer Boy along to an appointment, he never would have been content to sit and play.

Thanks to Grandy for the easy method for using linky love.

Good for you. You have to be in good shape to take care of all those other people that depend on you. Your priorities - any young mother's priorities - will get out of whack. You'll forget that the REALLY important person you have to take care of - is YOU.

I agree. young mothers tend to put themselves at the bottom of their priority list. You do need to take care of yourself. and your plan for the dentist visit is great.

You do have to take care of yourself so you're healthy enough to care for everybody else. It's also good for your children to see you take care of yourself -- you're a role model for how they will view themselves as they are adults. Feel better all around!

Thanks everybody. It's hard putting myself first. Often, I feel guilty for doing so. But, it does set a good example for the children and that in itself is all the reason I need.

Congrats on putting yourself in the mix. I am so guilty of the same thing. It's hard to make the "me" time in with all the kid stuff. I also need a dentist visit - quite badly.

Good for you! I am an anomally! I enjoy going to the dentist. I know, sick!

Sorry I haven't been around. Even though I am following your blog, for some reason, your feeds aren't transposing into my google reader. Weird. I'd been thinking, 'wow JA is really quiet...' Now I know!

Glad to hear it. You are so right. We often do neglect our own needs. I can't tell you the last time I saw a dentist.

Hope you're feeling better :)

Hey, Joyce Ann, I missed this post too. Weird.

If the mummy isn't healthy , then who picks up the load??
I spent a week in hospital recently, and it took 6 people to do my job! HA!

Stay well, love.xx
